erica’s verdun with tie hack

Erica is back with another creative twist for her latest project using the new Liesl + Co. pattern, the **Verdun Woven T-Shirt**. It's such an easy and fun hack that gives the shirt a whole new look! If you're looking to spice up your wardrobe this season, why not give it a try? Here’s how Erica transformed this classic design. When the new Liesl + Co. collection dropped, I was thrilled to see they included a simple woven tee—perfect for everyday wear. The **Verdun Woven T-Shirt** has quickly become one of those patterns I know I’ll be reaching for again and again. Its versatility shines through with options for long or short sleeves, making it perfect for any season. To start, I always like to test the fit with a wearable muslin. For this one, I used some wool suiting fabric gifted to me. Over the years, I’ve become confident in Liesl + Co.’s sizing consistency. Typically, I go with a size 4 bodice and a size 6 shoulders in the C cup. Since this pattern doesn't have numerical sizing, I opted for a straight size small. The inclusion of cup sizing makes adjustments a breeze, so no extra work needed here! After confirming the fit, I dug into my stash to find something lighter and summery. I came across this vibrant printed linen I had bought during a particularly snowy winter when I was daydreaming about warmer climates. The print felt perfect for summer vibes. To enhance the beachy feel, I decided to add waist ties. Instead of creating my own, I borrowed the tie pattern from the **Girl on the Go Dress + Top** pattern in the largest size. To mimic the silhouette of that style, I extended the **Verdun** bodice by about 4 inches, leveled the front and back hems, and eliminated the hem facings. Using a French curve ruler, I carefully extended the side seams to match the existing hip curve. The process couldn’t have been simpler. I stitched the ties just 2 inches below the bust darts, though I think there’s plenty of flexibility in where you can place them along the side seams. Midway through sewing, I added 5-inch slits to both sides for extra flair and movement. It was a last-minute decision, but it really brought the whole look together. Looking back, I realized I can wear the tie detail in the front or the back—it’s all about personal preference! This pattern is quick to sew and works well as a stash-busting project. I can already envision experimenting with solid colors and adding decorative stitches to make it pop. Or maybe I'll take it a step further and turn it into a dress. With or without the ties, I’m certain this won’t be my only **Verdun** creation this summer. It’s that kind of pattern—one you keep coming back to because it’s just so versatile and satisfying to wear. *PS: After finishing this project, I found myself thinking about how these little tweaks can completely change the vibe of a pattern. It’s amazing what a difference small details like ties and slits can make!* --- (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
