weekend links (the last of 2015!)

Hello friends! S has been eagerly counting down the days until her Christmas break, and we’re already at just 1.5 weeks! Are you ready for the festive season yet? While S is thrilled about Christmas, we’re experiencing some excitement beforehand. On December 22nd, all of Spain tunes into the television for the Loteria de Navidad. We’re thrilled to experience this tradition, and we’ve even bought a lottery ticket for the occasion. S chose our number the other day on the way home from school, and Todd joked that it’s all up to her now. If we win El Gordo, she’ll receive a significant portion of the grand prize. And if we don’t win, it’ll be all her fault! (She seemed okay with the first scenario but wasn’t thrilled about the second!) As I’ve mentioned before, the students from S’s school sing the winning numbers (there are quite a lot of winning numbers, so they take turns), and it will be fun to watch them. It’ll also be a great opportunity for me to practice my Spanish numbers—hours of practice ahead! We’ve also planned a trip to Lisbon between Christmas and New Year’s, and we’re really looking forward to it. I’ll be sharing photos on my Instagram account if you’d like to join us virtually. We’ve been invited to a lunch with Portuguese sewing bloggers, and we’re excited to meet some online friends in person. So, what else is new? Are you traveling for the holidays? When you have a moment during the festivities, don’t forget to create and add your 2015 Oliver + S sewing photo mosaics to the Flickr group. The mosaic maker is super easy to use, and in January, Rachel will do a 2015 post featuring everyone’s sewing projects. I can’t wait to see everything together! Alright, here are my final picks for the year. **Pinterest Picks** This paper town is like a grown-up version of snowflakes! I’d keep a window decoration like this up much longer than just for Christmas. ![Paper Town](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/b7024a2789f22642ca65b14e0a57fc12.jpg) This T-shirt reminds me of the Oliver + B Lunch Box Tee. This year, I made a dress that looks similar using the Liesl + Co Bento Tee pattern. ![T-Shirt](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/a2a31068b7ab72dc4a3384efd4672ede.jpg) I love the proportions of this cardigan and dress. This is my preferred length for the Cinema Dress, but I hadn’t thought of pairing it with a longer cardigan. With the right shoes, I think it would be perfect for a fancy holiday party! ![Cardigan and Dress](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/76098cc382b77ad43dc87f88cad91654.jpg) ‘Tis the season for sweets, and the pretty colors and packaging of these bon bon-inspired soaps is just genius. ![Bon Bon Soaps](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/58b18fd5e53330a01273bbf13588910d.jpg) Wouldn’t it be fun to use our Straight Stitch Society Apples to Oranges Sewing Kit pattern to make a small bag for a little girl? ![Small Bag](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/14aa0b17290985eb2c7e93ae55aa6e95.jpg) This pretty quilt has a contemporary Scandinavian feel. Very stylish. ![Quilt](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/47f8dd24dc5485cd3e7e5750bbf02880.jpg) **Weekend Reading** 1. In the future, will our clothing be smart? 2. If you remember Esprit back in its glory days, you might also know that Doug Tompkins, the founder of the company who passed away earlier this month, collected Amish quilts and displayed them in the company’s headquarters. This post about those quilts has been making the rounds. (By the way, I once worked in Esprit’s San Francisco headquarters, but sadly, the quilts were no longer there.) 3. Spending the holidays with family? Here’s a little something to give you pause, especially when you start to feel like you’ve had a bit too much family. (I’m really going to miss my family this year!) 4. Here’s a very straightforward scientific explanation of why rejection hurts and what we can do to combat those feelings. 5. I stumbled across this article the other day and wondered if it’s true that living abroad increases your creativity. Alright, have a fantastic weekend! We’ll be back next week, so don’t rush off too quickly, okay? (Ads by Google)
