antwerp and amarena by mire

Today, Mire is here to share the creations she made using patterns from the fall 2023 collection. First up is the Amarena dress. I went with view A, but swapped out the welt pockets for the side pockets from view B. Based on my measurements, I fell into size 6, so I went ahead and sewed that size without any adjustments. For the fabric, I picked a drapey tencel from my personal stash, and it turned out to be a fantastic choice for this dress. It came together quickly and was relatively straightforward to sew. The only part that required a bit more patience was the collar, but Liesl's instructions were crystal clear, which made the process much smoother. As an aside, this is something we often hear—Liesl’s instructions are always so detailed and easy to follow. [Insert image of the Amarena dress] I’m really pleased with how it turned out! This dress is perfect for all seasons. One of my favorite things about sewing is creating versatile pieces that work well layered throughout the year. During autumn, I pair it with a simple T-shirt underneath, while in winter, I throw on a cardigan to stay cozy. The fit is spot-on, though when I wear it with a T-shirt underneath, the back feels just slightly snug. For my next version, I’ll definitely add a bit more room in the back so it works better as a layering piece. Next up is the Antwerp pullover. Initially, I had planned to make one for myself using gray wool flannel. However, my teenage daughter spotted it and expressed interest in having one made for herself. She wasn’t fond of my fabric choice and instead selected a blue pleated ponte from my stash. To complete the look, I lined the hood with jersey. The silhouette of the pullover is quite flattering. [Insert image of the Antwerp pullover] Surprisingly, the final product exceeded my expectations. If left to my own devices, I probably wouldn’t have considered ponte for this design, but it actually looks amazing! Kudos to my daughter for picking such a great fabric—it truly elevated the whole piece. As a bonus, there’s something incredibly rewarding about sewing something for someone else. It adds a personal touch that store-bought items just can’t replicate. Plus, seeing her excitement when she tried it on made the entire project worthwhile. In conclusion, both projects turned out better than expected. Sewing these garments not only allowed me to experiment with new styles but also gave me the chance to explore different fabrics and techniques. Whether you’re creating for yourself or loved ones, the satisfaction of finishing a handmade item is unmatched. Happy sewing! --- Let me know if you'd like further tweaks or additional sections added!
