Today, Mire is here to share what she crafted from our fall 2023 pattern collection. Her creations truly highlight the versatility of these patterns.
First up, the **Amarena Dress**. Mire decided to go with View A, but instead of the welt pockets, she incorporated the side pockets from View B. Based on her measurements, she fit into size 6, so she went ahead with that size without any adjustments. For the fabric, she chose a drapey tencel from her personal stash, which turned out to be an excellent choice for this dress. It was surprisingly fast and straightforward to sew. While the collar did take a bit of effort, Liesl’s instructions were incredibly clear and easy to follow. As an editor, I’ve noticed this feedback quite often—Liesl always provides such detailed and user-friendly guidance.
Mire is absolutely thrilled with the outcome! This dress is perfect for all seasons. One of her favorite things about sewing is creating layering pieces that she can enjoy year-round. During autumn, she pairs the dress with a T-shirt underneath, and in winter, she adds a cardigan for warmth. Although the dress fits her beautifully, she noticed that when she wears it over a T-shirt, it feels slightly snug in the back. For her next version, she plans to allow more room to make it even more versatile as a layering piece.
Next, there's the **Antwerp Pullover**, which started as a project for herself but ended up being made for her teenage daughter. Initially, Mire intended to use gray wool flannel for her own pullover, but her daughter loved the design and requested one for herself. Surprisingly, she wasn't fond of Mire's fabric choice and opted for a blue pleated ponte from Mire's stash instead. To add comfort, Mire lined the hood with jersey. The pullover has a fantastic silhouette.
Surprisingly, the final product turned out beautifully! Mire admits that she would never have picked ponte for this style, yet it works stunningly well. It seems her daughter had excellent taste in fabrics after all.
In conclusion, both projects were successful, and Mire learned a lot along the way. She’s grateful for the flexibility and adaptability of these patterns, which allowed her to create something unique and meaningful for her family.
