India may complete its cotton export target ahead of schedule
The outlook for Indian cotton exports is still bright given that China has increased the supply of reserve cotton and reduced the import of foreign cotton. This year's cotton exports are expected to exceed market forecasts.
In April this year, India's cotton exports amounted to 106,000 tons, an increase of 134.7% year-on-year. The cumulative export volume for the current year as of the current month has reached 1.72 million tons. As long as the average monthly export can maintain 0.5 million tons in the next three months, it can reach USDA. 174 million tons of forecasting targets.
It is obvious that the USDA underestimated the export capacity of Indian cotton and it is very likely that the forecast will be raised in the May report. In the first report on 2013/14 production and sales forecast, USDA’s export of Indian cotton is forecast to be only 1.2 million tons, followed by an increase of India’s cotton exports to 1.74 million tons in 11 consecutive months. The United States Agricultural Counselor in India believes that Indian cotton is expected to export 1.92 million tons of cotton this year, and Fu Sitong is expected to have 1.85 million tons.
