Legend of "Life Diamond"

At the beginning of the 20th century, Jews in Eastern Europe bought 40 diamonds from South Africa. These diamonds are called "life diamonds" because they are huge and embarrassing. But with the invasion of Eastern Europe by Nazi Germany, the owners of these diamonds were sent to concentration camps without having to escape. These "life diamonds" also fell into the hands of the Nazis. In the winter of 1944, the Allies continued to advance to the German mainland. The Nazis that were coming to the end began to transfer a large number of treasures, and "Life Diamonds" were among them. Unexpectedly, two American soldiers accidentally seized these treasures at the German-French border and buried them underground. It was not until more than half a century later that the diamonds were seen again. Here is the legendary story about "Life Diamonds."

Fighting for leisure, winning treasures

In 1944, 18-year-old Jewish American youth Samuel Nie was enlisted and sent to the European front. Around the New Year in 1945, Nie’s troops, with the cooperation of the French Resistance Organization guerrillas, advanced into a small village near the French city of Strasbourg on the French-German border. Nie and his companion Tommy, as scouts, were ordered to sneak into the village before the big forces. In the village, they killed three Gestapo and took away a brown cloth box belonging to these people in the chaos.

After the battle, the two men opened the compartment of the box, and they were shocked: in addition to gold foil, silver coins, gold and silver cups and jewels, there were 40 enamel diamonds, and they were Nazis from the concentration camp. The "life diamond" plundered by the Jews in the hands. It turned out that with the faltering Hitler empire, the Nazi hangmen also fought their own abacus and transferred a large amount of treasure to Strasbourg in the German-French border area. I did not expect that the two American soldiers, Nie and Tommy, unexpectedly won the treasure. The two men each took 20 diamonds and handed over other spoils to the troops.

Don't forget the birth and death

In February 1945, the troops arrived on the banks of the Bliss River in the border of Germany and France. Nie and Tommy spent the whole night using wooden sticks and sabers to dig a hole 1 meter deep in the frozen soil. They put the diamonds together and buried them. But on the early morning of the next day, Nie was seriously injured and had to bid farewell to Tommy and was taken to the rear hospital.

Nieer gradually recovered after surgery and was sent back to the United States for a few months. In 1946, Nie was retired. As time flies, almost all the memories of the war fade away in Nie's mind, only the diamonds make him unforgettable. He began to think that Tommy would go back and take the diamonds after the war. It was not until 1954 that he learned that on the same day he was injured, Tommy was killed in the execution of his mission. At this moment, Nieer realized that these diamonds were not their own, but belonged to the Jewish brothers who died in the Nazi concentration camp.

40 years later, I still wish

One night in 1988, Nie suddenly found the former Israeli agent Yaron Svoyer who was presenting the situation in the Middle East in Bangor. He told him about the story of himself and the "life diamond" for eight hours. Swarney listened to Nie's remarks and determined to find the diamonds. The two set a gentleman's agreement: to donate these diamonds to those who need it.

After several years of preparation, Svoye conducted nine inspections in the Bliss River area on the German-French border in 1993, but found nothing. On July 9, 1999, Swoye came to the Bliss River with his three Jewish friends and four German security guards. After hard excavation, "Life Diamond" finally brought the earth back to life. The creators of the miracles did not abandon their promises, and these “life diamonds” were eventually used for charity.
