Worsted yarn, also called combed yarn, refers to the yarn spun through the combing process, including combed cotton yarn and combed wool yarn. The fibers in the yarn have a high degree of parallel stretch and are even and smooth, but the cost is higher and the yarn count is higher. Combed yarns are mainly used as raw materials for high-grade fabrics and knitwear, such as fine spinning, gabardine, tweeds, and sweaters.

Woollen yarn, also called carded or carded cotton yarn, refers to the yarn that is combed according to a general spinning system and is not spun by a combing process. Woollen yarns have more short fiber content, poorer parallel stretch of fibers, loose structure, more hairiness, lower yarn count, and poorer quality.
