The main method for optimizing the treatment of tourmaline is irradiation or heating, in order to improve the color of the tourmaline.
Irradiation. The colorless tourmaline can be darkened by irradiation, and the color after color change is stable or unstable (or faded under heat and light). The color after color change may not be all good. For example, a medium-green sample can be converted into a green-red bi-color stone, which can also be grayed out (the absorption of green and red is just balanced). heating. Heating can make the color of the tourmaline lighter, such as reddish or colorless red, brown or brownish powder, purple or some brown blue or dark green, orange yellow. The color after heat treatment is stable.
Filling. Filling is to use colorless wax to fill small cracks or improve polishing quality; wax or plastic can also be filled into the tubular body to drive out the dirt (or in combination with acid treatment and impregnation). It needs to be discriminated in the identification of inclusions. The imitations of tourmalines are mainly glass and plastic, which are easy to distinguish from the aspects of polarization, density and refractive index.
